This midtown Irish Pub goes beyond the traditional with their line-up of musicians, readings and classes. Music includes Seanchai performing Celtic HipHop every Friday night, Pat McGuire every Saturday, and live traditional Irish and Folk Rock on Sunday and Tuesday nights. Cover is $5 - $10. The home and headquarters of Anti-folk, which started out in the 80's as punk influenced acoustic music, and has since become much much more. Check the website for a more in depth description. The cafe has a full bar open noon - 4am, a 24 hour restaurant and lounge with a pool table. Shows are every night at 7:30. Every Monday they host an open mic Anti-Hootenany. All ages. S.O.B.'s (Sounds of Brazil)

Authentic brazilian dance spot and more. Shows include all kinds of live Latin music, plus Hip Hop, Reggae, and African. Hip Hop shows are 18 and over, all others are 21 and over. Doors usually open at 6:30pm and tickets vary between $0 - $20. Every weekend is like Carnival in Rio. Subway: 1, 9 to Houston St.

Sun Music Company

Home to acoustic singer/songwriters of all persuasions. Come hear 4 hours of original acoustic music for only $3 at the Tuesday night open mic starting at 7:30pm (sign-ups at 7pm). On other nights shows run 8pm - 11:30ish with a cover of around $10. The venue is a 75 person capacity non-smoking house serving light refreshments. All ages. Subway: 6 to 68th St.

Supper Club

Formerly the historic Edison Hotel Ballroom, this 40's style club/restaurant hosts live big band dance parties every Friday and Saturday. Swing and Foxtrot from 8pm - midnight, Mambo from 12am - 4am. All ages, $0 - $25 cover. Dinner is served from 5:30pm - midnight, with a $25 pre-theater prix fix menu served from 5:30 - 7:30. They also have dance lessons! El Taller

This Latin American Cultural Center has been presenting live music since 1979. Shows are on Fri & Sat (and sometimes Thur) starting at 9pm. All ages, no smoking, and no food is served. Admission is $10 ($8 for seniors and free for kids under 10 with an adult). Fridays are usually Latin Jazz and Saturdays are mixed. Subway: 1, 9 to 103rd St.
