Mayor Giuliani and the City Councill agreed on an anti-begging law that will probably go into effect next month. This law would prohibit begging within 10 feet of automatic teller machines.

Prosecuters charged dozens of New York City employees with welfare fraud. Employees were collecting welfare checks while receiving city paychecks.

A suspect linked to the zodiac killings of the early 1990's was involved in a shootout in Brooklyn. The gunman shot his sister and injured another in a standoff with hundreds of police officers.

The Olympic torch was relayed through Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan on the way to New Jersey. There was a short ceremony yesterday at Rockefeller Center.

John J. Royster, the suspect in the multiple attacks last week, will undergo a second psychiatric exam to determine whether he is fit to stand trial. His lawyers may pursue an insanity plea.

In seemingly unrelated cases, a suspect has stepped forward and confessed to a week of crime. This includes both the Central Park beating and the murder of the owner of an Upper East Side dry cleaning.

Mt. Sinai Hospital and New York University Medical Center are closing in on an agreement that would merge the two prestigious hospitals.

The tally for the New York City school board is finally finished after over a month. The tally took two weeks longer than previous counts in spite of computers used to aid in the tally.
The owner of a a dry cleaner on the Upper East Side was killed as she opened up her shop yesterday morning.

Police managed to identify the Central Park beating victim. Her name was not released by the request of the police and her parents.

New York City's Puerto Ricans celebrated their heritage with a parade down Fifth Avenue yesterday.

Police are still looking for clues on the identity of the victim and the suspect in the Central Park beating.
Bail for the man charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of Officer Guidice was set to $10,000. Mayor Giuliani again took the opportunity to lash out against the mishandling of the case by the Bronx DA's office.

Police have still not been able to identify the women who was beaten in Central Park on Tuesday.
Mayor Guiliani and the City Council passed a law banning reckless in-line skating and skateboarding on city sidewalks and streets.

A women was found beaten and unconcious in Central Park yesterday. The attack seemed to have taken place in broad daylight. The victim was in critical condition last night.

Tuesday, June 4, 1996
A crowded van jumped a low concrete divider on Rockaway Boulevard striking oncoming cars. The accident left 2 dead an 20 people injured.

The Board of Education reported that the percentage of New York City high school students graduating on time has reached a five-year low. This results from older students in the classroom instead of dropping out.
