Newark International Airport

Newark International Airport, located in Newark, New Jersey, handles both domestic and international flights. While it is a bit further from the city than the other two airports, it is normally less crowded and has more modern facilities. The airport has a Ground Transportation Desk where you can get information when you arrive.


Driving

Taxis

Taxis into the city take anywhere from 20-45 minutes. They cost $30-$38 NOT including bridge tolls (these are an additional 10 dollars). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.

Car Services

Gotham Limousine: For a little more than a taxi, you can have excellent service in a limo or sedan. Bus and Van Services

Newark Liberty Airport Express:

The ride from Newark costs $12.50 round-trip, or $14 one way (with discounts for kids, the disabled, and seniors). The busses run from about 4am to 1am between:

  • Newark Liberty Airport (terminals A, B, and C)
  • Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street between 8th Ave and 9th Ave)
  • Bryant Park (NW corner of 42nd and 5th Ave)
  • Grand Central (120 East 41st between Park and Lex).

They run every 15 minutes, and the trip is 45 minutes to an hour. Tickets can be purchased online, but not from the bus drivers. Call (877) 863-9275 for the latest information. (last updated 2007-07).

Train Services

AirTrain Newark

Newark Airport has recently connected their internal monorail to a new station servicing both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit lines. You can buy a ticket to the Newark International Airport Station, check your flight times or buy a ticket there, and be minutes away from your terminal. There are also Amtrack and New Jersey Transit vending machines in the station for your trip into the City.
