- November 30, 1994
- The City Council is holding hearings on a proposal to ban aggressive
pan-handling in ATM machines.
- Rapper Tupac Shakur is at Bellevue hospital after having been shot in
an apparent robbery.
- The main post office on 8th avenue has opened up its letters from Santa
Claus program. They make letters to Santa Claus from children available to
the public to respond to and hopefully spread some joy.

- Mayor Giuliani and Governor elect Pataki met today and said they will
work together.
- November 28, 1994
- City College Professor Leonard Jeffries is back in the news. A videotape
of him making racist slurs against Jews is being sold on the streets of
Harlem. Herman Bedillo is going to bring up the issue at a meeting of
the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York.
- Governor elect George Pataki met with City borough presidents today. He
will be meeting with the Mayor Giuliani in private tomorrow.

- The large menorah downtown was lit for the first night of Chanukah.
- November 26, 1994
- Mayor Giuliani is vetoing the budget that the City Council passed earlier
this week because it reinstated 96 million dollars in cuts.
- November 25, 1994
- Former Mayor Beame is in the hospital. Doctors say he will be ok.
- The Navy commemorated a Kamikaze attack on the air craft carrier Intrepid
50 years ago. The 68 crewmen that lost their lives in that attack were
remembered.
- November 24, 1994
- Happy Thanksgiving!!! The Macy's Day parade kicked off in usual fashion
today. They wound their way down Broadway to 34th Street. Among the
celebrities marching in the parade were Bob Hope and Joey Lawrence.
- November 23, 1994
- The City Council is expected to vote today on the Mayor's proposed
budget cuts. They are challenging the mayor's ability to unilaterally
cut many of the city's programs.
- Police Commissioner William Bratton said that all police officers were
going to be required to take driving courses to make them better drivers.
He said New York City cops have a lot of bad habits on the road.
- November 22, 1994
- School Chancellor Ramon Cortinez and Mayor Giuliani are going head to
head about proposed cuts in the budget for the Department of Education.
- Some of the head members of the Chinatown gang, The Flying Dragons,
have been placed under arrest and charged with murder and racketeering.
- November 21, 1994
- Three young people were killed on the West Side highway this morning as
their car ran into a tree.
- There are going to be reductions in the amount of support staff at the
Board of Education. 800 jobs will be cut to meet with the Mayor's stringent
budget requirements.
- November 20, 1994
- A firefighter and the family he tried to save are fighting for their
lives tonight due to a faulty ladder on a fire truck that collapsed as
they were climbing down.
- November 19, 1994
- Cab Calloway is dead at the age of 86.
- The feud between Mayor Giuliani and Governor elect Pataki is still raging.
People all agree that it will have to be settled because neither the State
nor the City can afford to keep it going. Giuliani is hoping that a face to
face meeting with the Governor will clear things up.
- November 18, 1994
- The MTA is preparing announce a fare hike of 10 cents on the Buses
and Subways. The hike would bring the fare to $1.35.
- The Department of Transportation has started placing parking signs
on poles that are 30 feet high due to excessive theft and vandalism
the current signs. Over 20,000 signs had to be replaced last year.
- November 17, 1994
- It was a quiet night at the Riker's Island jail last night. There is a
group of prisoners who are on a hunger strike to protest budget cuts.
- Former Governor Hugh Carey and Former Mayor Ed Koch are two candidates
for George Pataki's transition team.
- November 16, 1994
- Their is a lot of tension and protests going on inside Riker's Island.
The inmates are protesting proposed budget cuts that would reduce prisoner's
services.
- 7 year veteran Officer Martinez has been arrested for robbing a grocery
store. He is being suspended without pay.
- November 15, 1994
- Martina Navratilova will make her last appearance at the Virgina Slims
tournament at Madison Square Garden tonight.
- A police officer was just shot in East New York in Brooklyn. He is
being taken to Jamaica Hospital.
- November 14, 1994
- The man who was planning to blow up the Holland tunnel has been caught on
home video in a practice run he filmed before he was caught.
- November 13, 1994
- The City Council is considering a bill to ban smoking in all public
places in the city.
- November 12, 1994
- One burgular has died and another is seriously injured as they tried
to escape from police on Broome Street. They fell 7 stories as they tried
to climb down from the roof in an effort to escape from police.
- Mayor Giuliani has said that he hopes to work with Governor Pataki
even though he didn't support him in the election. So far it appears
that Governor Pataki has snubbed Giuliani's attempts to congratulate him.
- A group of Cyclists completed their trip across America to promote
AIDS awareness. The three women peddled 3800 miles from Los Angeles. The
trip took them 52 days.
- November 11, 1994
- Memorial services in commemoration of veteran's day are taking place
in New York at the eternal light monument.
- Mayor Giuliani has appointed Mr. Sherman to head OTB. They finished
$7 million in the hole last year and the Mayor is hoping this change in
leadership will turn things around.
- November 10, 1994
- An infant was rescued from a trash compactor. He was estimated to be
between 1 to 8 hours old and was found by the building superintendant.
- The family of transit police officer Robinson that was shot on a
subway platform by accident is sueing the city for $50 million.
- November 9, 1994
- George Pataki beat Mario Cuomo for Governor.
- Six people were arrested for graffiti making on Woodward Avenue in
Queens.
- A new Disney store is opening just south of the Warner Brother's store
on 55th Street and Fifth Avenue. They will specialize in Disney
merchandise and promotion of Disney's interests in the city.
- November 8, 1994
- It's election day, don't forget to vote! Polls will be open in New York
until 9 and in New Jersey and Connecticut until 8.
- As of noon the City board of elections reported that voter turnout has
been light so far.
- There was a large fire at the Saks Fifth Avenue department store. Nobody
was hurt, but several employees did suffer from smoke inhallation.
- November 7, 1994
- George Pataki's campaign manager got into a fight with police commissioner,
William Bratton, when he demanded an investigation into why New York City
police officers ripped down several campaign signs in Brooklyn.
- November 4-6, 1994
- The New York City Marathon was run today. The winners were German Silva
in the men's division. Tecla Laroupe is the youngest woman to ever win the
race. There was a wedding before the race and the bride and groom ran in
their wedding gowns.
- Memorial services for actor Raul Julia were held today in New York at the
public theater.
- November 3, 1994
- Ross Perot is going to endorse Tom Golisano for Governor as we head into the final 100 hours of the campaign.
- Two police officers that were recently injured in separate incidents
saluted the medical professionals that took care of them. Officer Robertson
and Constantino both commended their doctors publically.
- November 2, 1994
- George Pataki is gaining some ground in the polls again.
- November 1, 1994
- Con Edison admits that it covered up evidence in the steam pipe explosion in Gramercy park 5 years ago.
