Republican Party loyalist William Koeppel was arrested on counts of
rent gouging, a result of forcing potential renters to contribute to
the political campaigns of US Senator D'Amato and NYC Mayor Giuliani.
It is illegal to place a condition on rental agreements, beyond the
appropriate lawful rent charges. The Assistant District Attorney
said there is no evidence that either the Senator or Mayor knew
of Koeppel's behavior.

Time magazine reports that Federal agents wanted to raid Aum Shinri
Kyo sect offices in New York back in March, but were blocked by
a federal judge who would not issue a search warrant. An Air Force
transport plane full of federal agents and chemical experts
was ready to deploy before being held up by the federal judge.
The Aum Shinri Kyo cult is suspected of being responsible for the
March 20 gas attack in Tokyo's subway system.
Queens
Two men robbed the offices of Trans Am Security early this morning,
The gunmen tied up the five women who were working there before
escaping with approximately $1 million in cash

Church bells across the city tolled today at 4pm Eastern time in
remembrance of the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing incident.
Roughly sixty New York City police, fire and emergency volunteers have
gone to Oklahoma City to help in their rescue and relief efforts.

A fire at the Cabrini Home for Girls last night took the life of three
teen-aged girls who were trapped inside the building. Fire officials
are looking into the possibility of arson as the cause.

The judge in the World Trade Bombing case has warned the jury not to
let the recent bombing in Oklahoma City affect their decision.
Defense lawyers, who argued that speculation concerning Muslim
involvement in Oklahoma City would unfairly bias the jury, were denied
a motion for a mistrial. The bombing on February 26, 1993 killed six
people and injured over 1,000 people. The death toll of the Oklahoma
City incident numbers over 80.
Brooklyn
The Los Angeles Dodger baseball organization president Peter O'Malley
has donated the "World Champions 1955 Dodgers" penant to the Brooklyn
Historical Society. O'Malley's father was the one who made the
decision in 1957 to move the Dodger organization from Brooklyn to Los
Angeles. The flag was actually "reacquired" in 1959 by two New York
sportswriters who took it from the Dodgers hospitality suite and
turned it over to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

City officials to step up security around federal government buildings
in the metropolitan area.

business north to Yonkers if Mayor Giuliani attempts to
take over the management of their opreations or raise their rent.

New York Comptroller Alan Hevesi has proposed a $400 million bond plan
aimed at providing help to bolster Northern Ireland econonmically.
The plan, similar to the 1951 Israel Bond plan, would provide money
for the Ireland Development bank to invest in northern Ireland and
border counties of the Irish Republic. The City may place up to $51
million of its pension plan into the bonds.

Fifth Avenue was closed today for the annual Easter Parade.
The traditional Easter Bonnet display provided a rich array of color,
as women from all over donned their ornamental hats in the parade.
Mayor Giuliani kicked off a new tradition by sponsoring an Easter Egg
hunt on the grounds of Gracie Mansion, the government owned residence
of the Mayor on the Upper East Side.

Jazz pianist Dick Hyman, Marian McPartland, and Ruth Laredo wowed an
audience at the Young Men's Hebrew Association on last night.
Mayor Giuliani's car was attacked by an irate Walter Riordan of Ocean
Grove, N.J. as the Mayor was leaving the annual Easter Egg Roll in
Central Park. The man pounded on the windshield of the Mayor's car
and attempted to open the passenger side door before being
apprehended by park police.

Rap star Queen Latifah has been accussed of video piracy after
illegally copied videotapes were found in a New Jersey rental store
she sold to a former police officer. The rap start was charged after
the current owner found roughly 5% of the store's tapes were illegally
reproduced.

The teen accused of the 1991 murder of a Hasidic Jewish scholar
will be tried as a juvenile.
Lemrick Nelson Jr. will be tried as a juvenile on federal civil rights
charges in the killing of Yankel Rosenbaum. If convicted, he will receive
a maximum sentence of 5 years.

and a Singapore-based Hotel company for 325 Million dollars. There
was a rumor that the Sultan of Brunei was going to buy the hotel, but
Trump denied that.

Queens
Two Con Ed workers part of a crew have been shot in Queens. One worker
was shot in the head, and the other in the torso. It appears that they
were caught in a cross fire. The shooting took place on 144th and 80th
Avenue. A civilian by-stander was also shot in the hand.

Jack Giodano, reputed gangster, was shot three times while visiting a
friend at Lennox Hill Hospital. A witness got a license plate number
and the police nabbed a suspect.

A tough new ban on smoking is going into effect today. Smoking will not
be allowed in restaurants with more than 35 seats, sports stadiums, and
most public areas. Smokers groups are protesting the ban and non-smokers
are applauding the measure.

Two women from New Jersey were caught in a car bombing in the Gaza strip
this Sunday. The Islamic fundamentalist groups Chamas and Islamic Jihad
have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Concern has been raised regarding the safety of construction in the
crowded metropolis. A five-story building at 38th Street and 9th
Avenue which collapsed this morning killed a 32-year construction

against Governor Pataki's proposed budget cuts. The vote on the new budget

There is a massive man-hunt going on for a serial rapist up in the Bronx.
He is known as the elevator rapist and has struck at least 10 times. The
last attack happened on March 25th. He is described as Black in his
mid-twenties. He usually wears a military jacket.

Passengers on an American Airlines jet at Kennedy Airport had to be
evacuated when a fire broke out in one of the rear engines of the plane.
43 of the 99 passengers received minor injuries from sliding down the
emergency shoots and were taken to local hospitals.
